“Meeting Portable was refreshing” – Skepta reveals

British rapper Skepta recently expressed his admiration for Nigerian artist Portable, stating that meeting him was “refreshing.”

Skepta pointed out the issues of insincerity in the music industry, comparing it with Portable’s authenticity.

He acknowledged Portable’s unique talent, saying , “Whatever Portable does, I recognize”. This statement reflects Skepta’s appreciation for genuine artistry in the midst of an industry which he perceives as filled with “fake guys”

He appreciated Portable’s unique vibes and authenticity, pointing out his unconventional behaviors, such as sharing daily snippets and being loud.

Skepta noted that he respects Portable’s approach and the energy he brings to his artistry, stating, “I know that energy and I respect it” 

Skepta and Portable met after Skepta invited the Nigerian singer to the UK in 2023 to collaborate on their song “Tony Montana.”

Their meeting was characterized by Skepta’s appreciation for Portable’s authenticity, comparing it with the insincerity he often encounters in the music industry.

Skepta expressed that he could relate to Portable’s unique energy and behaviors, which he respects despite not engaging in them himself.

As at that time, Skepta’s meeting with Portable drew mixed reactions from fans. While many praised Skepta for recognizing Portable’s authenticity, some cautioned him about Portable’s volatile nature and past disrespectful behavior towards colleagues.

In response to these warnings, Skepta dismissed the concerns, stating that some comments felt repetitive, saying they were like a “broken record” .
