The whole incident happened in Porthacourt on January 6, 2024. After closing from work, a friend invited him to a birthday party.
On their way back, the young man who drove his Keke to the birthday party noticed he was low on fuel and decided to buy from a roadside seller.
Unknowingly, his friend, whose slippers were torn, decided to wear one of the slippers belonging to the seller’s child.
While leaving, the woman shouted for help, claiming they st*le from her house.
A few minutes later, the police arrived, and that was how he was arrested and taken to court, though he was granted bail of 50,000 naira.
But because he had no one in Porthacourt, he couldn’t pay, and that was how he was left in prison for one year.
According to him, he was kept in a prison where there was no water or food, as he shared a video of his appearance when he came out of prison in December 2024.
“I drive Keke. On January 6, 2024, I closed from work, and a friend invited me to a birthday party. So, I carried him there.”
“On our way back, my fuel finished, so I asked my friend to follow me to buy fuel from a woman in the area.”
“After buying the fuel, my friend’s slippers got damaged, but he didn’t tell me. He just took the slippers at the front of the house, which belongs to the woman’s son.”
“As we were leaving, the woman called us back and realized what happened. I apologized, but she refused to listen and started calling us th!eves.”
“I stayed back, begging and explaining that it wasn’t intentional while cautioning my friend. But before I knew it, her husband called the police, and we were arrested.”
“We spent three days at the station, thinking it was a small matter, only to end up in prison.”
