Largest hospital for mad people set to launch in Lagos

A specially designed hospital for mad people is set to launch in 2025. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has announced that the Psychiatric Wellness and Rehabilitation Institute, a mental health facility currently under construction is set for completion in 2025.

The 500-bed hospital for mad people is situated at Ketu Ejirin area of Epe, Lagos State.

Unveiling the progress of the facility Governor Sanwo-Olu revealed the scope and scale of the project, which he said was being developed in phases.

Phase I, currently at 50% completion, comprises a 500-bed health facility featuring consultation rooms, dormitories, dining halls, kitchens, staff quarters, and recreational spaces, all within a serene 25-hectare expanse. 

This will be an end-to-end Psychiatric Centre, ensuring patients receive psychotherapy and psycho-rehabilitation in a first-class environment,” Governor Sanwo-Olu said.

The Psychiatric center is planned as a bungalow complex to cater to the unique requirements of mental health patients.

The Governor stated that the design reflects global standards for psychiatric rehabilitation centers.

Sanwo-Olu also added that once commissioned and operational, the institute is expected to set a standard for mental healthcare in the region.

He expressed his satisfaction regarding the progress achieved by the contractors, Messrs Formwork Limited.

The facility is projected to be ready to admit patients by the last quarter of 2025,” Sanwo-Olu noted.

The Phase II of the project will enhance the institute’s capacity by adding more accommodations and rehabilitation spaces.

We believe that this aspect of health delivery is equally important. Mental health challenges deserve top-tier solutions, and we are committed to making this facility a classic case of excellence”, the Governor remarked.

The Governor also expressed gratitude to members of the Lagos State Executive Council and media professionals for their participation during the site inspection.

The Mental Health Institute at Ketu-Ejirin forms a crucial part of the Lagos State Government’s plan to tackle increasing mental health challenges and deliver holistic care services.

The facility’s location near the Food and Logistics Hub reflects its alignment with the state’s strategic development framework.

Governor Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed the government’s dedication to establishing high-quality healthcare infrastructure, assuring residents that initiatives like this represent the administration’s resolve to address the diverse health needs of its residents.

By this time next year, we are confident this facility will be a beacon of hope for those in need of mental health Services,” the Governor said.
