It was a big show, friends, family, and well-wishers were in attendance. It was held at the Anglican Church Field in Uzere Kingdom, Isoko South Local Government Area, and was a big celebration befitting a big man in Isoko land. The three wives, Oghenekome, Ewom, and Oghenekaro, are now part of Otor’s growing family in a ceremony that showcases Isoko culture.
Otor said he wants to have 32 children before he dies. In his words, “I want to have 32 children and I won’t leave this earth until I achieve that.” Already a father of nine, Otor believes marrying multiple wives is the way to achieve his goal.
Otor’s love for polygamy is rooted in his upbringing. From a polygamous home, he grew up understanding how such homes work. “Polygamy was never a problem in our home. We bonded well and still maintain a good relationship,” he said. That’s why he is comfortable with his lifestyle and sees it as practical and harmonious.
He said he had organized one reception for the three wives to cut costs. “I have paid their bride prices and we have been living together, the event is just a reception. PMAN will provide music and refreshments are settled. It will be a big day.”
He said he would expand his family further, he plans to marry two more wives soon. This he believes will bring him closer to his ultimate goal of having a big family that will outlive him.
He noted that disputes among his wives are resolved fairly and transparently – “If there’s a problem, I mediate in the presence of the others so everyone learns from the solution”. He also said his wives are independent and hardworking, one is a hairdresser, one a caterer, and the third a trader.
When asked if he could fulfill his marital duties at his age, Otor attributed his vitality to his healthy lifestyle. He said he avoids certain foods especially rice which he claims weakens a man. “My diet keeps me fit and ready. I visit my wives weekly and none of them feels neglected”, he said, he doesn’t use aphrodisiacs.
