Daniel Regha fired up X (formerly Twitter) with a question about state governors and traditional matters. In a recent tweet on X, he asked:

“Is a state governor supposed to be involved in traditional matters? Why is Seyi Makinde presenting the staff to the Alaafin of Oyo (in an office) and why is he being allowed to touch the staff?”
He clarified his question wasn’t meant to disrespect anyone but his tweet has generated a lot of reactions from his followers and has raised questions about the modern governance and traditional institutions.
Seyi Makinde presented the Staff of Office to the new Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade at the Governor’s Office in Ibadan. Regha’s question is why a state governor, a political figure, is directly involved in such a sacred and cultural event. For many, the staff of office should have been presented in a more traditional setting not in an office or by someone who isn’t directly connected to the throne.
