At the exclusive premiere of his debut feature film, A Ghetto Love Story, Basketmouth made it clear, comedy isn’t going anywhere. While the financial attractiveness of filmmaking is undeniable, the he remains committed to his first love—stand-up comedy.

“I am still into comedy,” Basketmouth assured journalists. “From next year, I’m going on tour. Already, I have my UK tour, and then I have a US tour. I’m also doing a show in Nigeria next year. Comedy is still going, and I’m not going to stop.”

Basketmouth, however, revealed a significant change in how he approaches his art. He plans to stop hosting private events like weddings as a Master of Ceremonies (MC).

“I didn’t enter this industry to be an MC at weddings and events,” he explained. “I felt like I was adulterating the art. So if I’m doing a private gig, it has to be stand-up comedy, not MCing. Let me just do my 30 minutes and leave. But I can’t MC anymore. That’s cheating. I’m cheating on my art.”

This decision reflects his deep respect for comedy as an art form. While private gigs may bring in substantial income, Basketmouth places importance in staying true to his original calling which includes making people laugh on stage.

Basketmouth’s dive into filmmaking doesn’t mean he’s leaving comedy behind. Instead, it’s an exciting addition to his creative repertoire. With A Ghetto Love Story, he’s expanding his storytelling skills, showing fans that his talent goes beyond the microphone.
