“I’m attracted to poor girls” – Mr Supranational Nigeria, Nwokolo claims

Ugo Nwokolo, the current Mr. Nigeria Supranational, has started a conversation with his recent statement on women from less privileged backgrounds. On “The Honest Bunch” podcast with OAP Nedu Wazobia, Nwokolo spoke on attraction and marriage.

In the interview, Nwokolo said he prefers “poor girls” and that he finds them more attractive and marriage material than their rich counterparts. He explained this by listing out some attributes he associates with women from humble backgrounds.

He said women facing financial hardship have a deep spiritual commitment which he finds very attractive. He mentioned their early morning prayers, specifically NSPPD prayers as evidence of their commitment. Nwokolo also said these women are more fertile and are ideal for those who want to have a family.

Nwokolo said, “Poor girls turn me on; the poorer the girl, the more I am attracted to her. Only a poor woman will wake up by 7am to pray for you, do NSPPD, pray for her husband. Marry a poor girl; when it comes to fertility, poor women can be so fertile!”

These comments have generated a lot of reactions on social media. Many users are bashing Nwokolo for his comments, saying he is promoting stereotypes and devaluing women from different socio-economic backgrounds. They say his views are reductionist and don’t acknowledge the many qualities an individual brings to a relationship regardless of their financial status.

On the other hand, some are defending Nwokolo’s view, saying his comments highlight the virtues of humility, spirituality and dedication that comes with people who have faced economic challenges. They say his comments is emphasizing character and personal values over material wealth in choosing a life partner.
