‘I was t@rtured to confess’: man sentenced to d£ath for alleged fowl th£ft speaks out

Segun Olowookere, who was sentenced to d£ath by hanging for allegedly st£aling a fowl and eggs in Osun State, has revealed the troubling story of his arrest and conviction.

The young man’s journey began in 2010 when, at 17, he was accused of r@bbery involving a family member’s complaint.

Olowookere, along with another suspect, Sunday Morakinyo, was accused of robbing a policeman, Tope Balogun, of two fowls and eggs.

More allegations included th£ft of mobile phones, r@bbery attempts, and st£aling a gallon of vegetable oil—charges that snowballed into a case of armed r@bbery.

In an interview, Olowookere revealed how his life turned upside down after the incident.

According to the young man, he was at his father’s shop discussing his university admission when police officers arrived amid g€nfire.

“Everybody ran, but I stayed with my dad, I was arrested without explanation and was taken to a local police post and later transferred to Okuku Divisional Police Headquarters.”

Despite denying the allegations, Olowookere claimed he was tortured into confessing.

“The police accused me of being the gang leader of children who allegedly stole the fowls and eggs.

They t@rtured me to force a confession,” he said. Though the children involved in the case were later released, Olowookere and Morakinyo were held.

In 2013, they appeared before Justice Jide Falola at the Osun State High Court, where they pleaded not guilty. However, the court’s judgment sentenced both to d£ath.
