Hushpuppi Biography, Background and Net Worth
Ramon Olorunwa Abbas, who is also known as Hushpuppi, is a Nigerian social media personality. Hushpuppi turned out to be a fraudster and was known for his extravagant lifestyle and cybercrime. Before his arrest in 2020, he was flaunting his luxury lifestyle on Instagram, where he wore designer outfits, luxury cars and went on expensive holidays.
Background and Early Life
Hushpuppi was born October 11, 1982 in Lagos, Nigeria. He grew up in the Oworonshoki area of Lagos, a low-income neighbourhood. Not much is known about his education but he reportedly struggled financially in his early years. He later moved to Malaysia and then to Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) where he gained international attention for his opulence.
Despite claiming to be a real estate developer and businessman, authorities later found out that his wealth was mainly acquired through fraudulent activities, including Business Email Compromise (BEC) schemes, cyber fraud, and money laundering.
Rise to Fame
Hushpuppi became popular on social media, especially on Instagram where he showcased his luxurious lifestyle. He was often seen wearing high-end brands like Gucci, Fendi, and Louis Vuitton. He spent lavishly on private jets, Rolls Royces, Bentleys and luxury watches and everyone admired and suspected him. He associated with celebrities, musicians, and influencers which further boosted his online fame.
But his sudden rise to wealth without a clear source of income made people speculate about the nature of his business.
Arrest and Conviction
June 10, 2020, Hushpuppi was arrested in Dubai by the FBI and Interpol in a joint operation code named “Fox Hunt 2”. The authorities accused Hushpuppi of being involved in lots of global cybercrime which included defrauding individuals, companies and financial institutions of over $400m. He was later extradited to the US where he pleaded guilty to charges of money laundering and fraud.
November 2022, he was sentenced to 11 years in prison for his role in the cybercrime.

Before his arrest, Hushpuppi’s net worth was estimated to be $20-$40m but most of that was acquired illegally. After his conviction, his assets were seized and he lost access to his fraudulent wealth.
