From Online Connection to Captivity: Police Rescue Woman Held Captive in Hotel by Online Acquaintance
Promise Eze, a 25-year-old lady, was successfully rescued by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command from a suspected armed r@bber and ritualist in Abuja.
In a post on X on Sunday, FCT Police Public Relations Officer SP Josephine Adeh revealed the event, which took place on January 31, 2025, at a hotel in the Wuse district.
Adeh claimed that hotel staff reported suspicious conduct to the authorities.
Upon arrival, officers found Eze tied to a chair with her mouth covered in plaster. She was unconscious but was immediately rushed to Wuse District Hospital, where she later regained consciousness.
According to investigations, Eze had checked into the hotel with a man from Lagos State who first claimed to be Emmanuel Okoro.
Eze subsequently revealed, however, that she had met the man online, where he had claimed to be a Delta State employee of an oil business under the moniker Michael Prince.
The victim described how they decided to meet in Abuja after turning down an invitation to Delta.
Where the suspect reportedly tied her up, taped her mouth shut, and threatened her with a dagger, what had started out as a friendly encounter swiftly devolved into a terrifying scene. After that, he took two of her cell phones and ran away.
Eze heard the suspect talking to accomplices before fleeing, suggesting he planned to come back and finish the crim£.
The FCT PPRO noted, “Recognising the gravity of this heinous act, the FCT Police Command has launched a full-scale manhunt for the suspect and is working tirelessly to ensure his immediate arrest.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT, CP Olatunji Disu, psc, strongly condemns this act of viol£nce and urges residents—especially young women—to exercise caution when meeting individuals they do not know personally.
The CP reassures the public that the FCT Police Command remains unwavering in its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents.
He also calls on anyone with relevant information that could lead to the suspect’s arrest to immediately contact the police.”
