“Wizkid was leaning towards Reggae and Dancehall when Banky signed him” – Eldee
Popular Nigerian rapper Eldee, in a podcast with Adesope, claimed Nigerian Afrobeat singer and Grammy winner Wizkid started his career as a reggae singer before Banky W signed him.
In his words, “I saw the talent in Wizkid when he walked in; I feel part of what I said to Banky gave him the confidence to sign Wizkid considering his talent at that young age,” said Eldee.
“We had to figure out a way to make sure he didn’t fall in the wrong circle; there were a lot of talented kids in the street, but we needed someone we could mold and help give direction,” he added.
“Wizkid was leaning towards reggae and dancehall when Banky signed him before he put out his first single because you’re not Jamaican, and I told him your sound needs to be original Nigerian sound.” Said Eldee.
Eldee also explained how he brought Rock City music and mixtapes to the studio; he and Banky W normally play Rock City music to Wizkid. They try to convince Wizkid to sound like songs on Rock City with a touch of Nigerian sound if he wants to go global.

The old Nigerian rapper Eldee admitted Wizkid was leaning more like a reggae dancehall Jamaican artist before him, and Banky gave him a direction.
“I remember when he recorded “Don’t Dull” Freestyle; we were on a trip with Banky W when Wizkid played the freestyle “Molowo,” he did with Samklef.” I told him this is exactly what you need to go global.”
The Video Mix Award with Sound City was the first big show Wizkid performed after Banky W and Eldee called Wizkid up on stage to perform.
The podcast video has attracted many reactions from people, most especially Wizkid’s fans, as they claim the bigger boys in the music industry recognize Wizkid as a talent.
