Florence Ifeoluwa Otedola aka DJ Cuppy is a Nigerian disc jockey, music producer and philanthropist. Born on November 11, 1992 in Lagos, Nigeria to Nigerian businessman Femi Otedola and his wife Nana.
Early Life
Cuppy spent her early years in Lagos, attending Grange School in Ikeja before moving to London at 13 for her GCSEs and A-Levels. She graduated from King’s College London in 2014 with a degree in Business and Economics and from New York University in 2015 with a master’s in Music Business. In 2022, she completed a master’s in African Studies at the University of Oxford.
Career
Cuppy’s music career started in 2014 as the resident DJ at the MTV Africa Music Awards in Durban. She further gained recognition by performing at the Tatler and Christie’s Art Ball in London and the Financial Times Business of Luxury Summit in Mexico City. In July 2014, she released her first compilation mix, “House of Cuppy” featuring EDM-style remixes of popular Afropop songs. That same year, she founded Red Velvet Music Group, a London-based music management and content production company.
DJ Cuppy has released several singles including “Green Light” featuring Tekno, “Vybe” with Sarkodie and “Gelato” featuring Zlatan Ibile. Her debut album “Original Copy” was released in August 2020 showcasing her growth as an artist. Outside of music, Cuppy has done a lot of philanthropy. Through The Cuppy Foundation, she has raised over $17m for displaced children in Nigeria and hardship funds for African students across her alma maters.
