“We will mention 5 artists without you”- X user trolls Davido

Popular Nigerian Afrobeat musician and songwriter David Adekele, aka Davido, once again took to his social media account to brag about his achievements in the entertainment industry.

In his post, Davido claimed Afrobeat cannot be mentioned without mentioning his name in the same conversation.

“Afrobeats can’t be brought up without my name. Impossible,” says Davido.

But an X user, @BASITO, claims Davido isn’t correct with his statement. He stated five (5) other artists would be mentioned in any Afrobeat conversation before Davido.

Some Nigerians are also in doubt of Davido’s claim about Afrobeat; another person with the handle @apostlekingjohn stated how several legendary artists will be mentioned in such conversations before Davido is mentioned.

“I can mention 20.. that’s if you want to include people who paved the way for Afrobeat.. like 2face, dbanj. Psquare,” he said.

The recently released single titled “Funds” by Davido, featuring Nigerian rapper Odumodublvck and love story singer Chike, tops the chart as the number one streamed song on Spotify Nigeria.

The song was also the most streamed single on Spotify on its first day of release.

Davido believes his dues have been paid as he brags about his input and sacrifice to get Afrobeat at the top level.

But in all, is this enough reason to rate him as the king of Afrobeat?

His recent post has gotten many people to react to his claim and his statement has caused serious debate online and offline.
