Popular Nigerian Singer, Davido found himself in the middle of a political crisis in Osun State and just issued a public apology to the Police Commissioner, Mohammed Umar Abba. In the heat of the moment, Davido took to social media to vent and indirectly attacked Commissioner Abba for not doing enough. But after cooling down and realizing the implications of his words, Davido took it back and apologised to the Commissioner for his comments. He acknowledged the Commissioner’s efforts in maintaining peace in the state.

This is the delicate relationship between entertainment figures and politics in Nigeria. Davido is not just a musician, he has been involved in politics particularly his family’s affair. His involvement in Osun State politics became more apparent during the governorship election where he was a vocal supporter of his uncle, Governor Adeleke.

Osun State is a state of tension especially during elections. In the 2022 governorship election, Davido’s support for his uncle was met with opposition from other artists and they went public with it. For instance Portable who supported the opposing candidate later apologized to Davido after a series of back and forth. This shows how influential entertainers are in shaping public opinion and political discourse in the region.
