Daniel Regha Critiques Davido’s “Funds” Music Video and Sparks Heated Debate Among Fans
X (formerly Twitter) social media influencer Daniel Regha gave his two cents on Davido’s new “Funds” music video, which he felt was a missed opportunity for an on-point storyline. He noted that he liked the scenes of the auction and playing poker but felt the director never stitched these into a logical storyline. He thought it had “too many things happening” and was hence chaotic and not impactful.
In his words:
“Davido’s “Funds” needed a better music video. The auction scene was a nice concept, plus the poker scene was on the theme, but the director should’ve simply stuck with that storyline & made it into a short film to carry the song. Too many things seems to be happening in the music video. Again, Davido looks very exhausted in the gambling scene, that wasn’t a great shot, the makeup artist(s) should’ve done a better job. No offense.”
He critiqued the fact that Davido looked “very tired” in the gambling scene; this was an avoidable camera effect, considering the makeup could have been finer. At the same time, Regha made sure to note that the comments were not meant to insult the singer, that has not stopped them from getting the attention of fans, who are going ahead to share their thoughts as well.
In fact, one, @Big_Yem, even went as far as to sarcastically tell Regha to focus on his health: “Daniel Regha needs to ‘eat’ well, so he can look better and healthier. ” Meanwhile, @marvyofficial_ pointed out the irony of constantly criticizing others when all of them, too, might be “mumu” for always responding to Regha.
Others even more doubted Regha: “If na person wey dey do video no talk am now, make we no listen,” said @kpapkando, while admitting such criticism might still promote the artist’s work. The supporter @21__saint agreed with just one thing: “The only thing you said that’s a fact here, is that Davido looks tired in that poker, but we love his exhaustion like that.”
The critique by Regha has resurfaced debates concerning his place in conversations on music. Critics such as @I__E__O accused him of having nothing good to say about any artist: “No one has ever done something good in your eyes. If na u be God no one is making heaven.” Some responses, like @sweetbrownmusic’s blunt “Weray video director we hear you mumu man,” show the divisiveness in the statements made by Regha.
The backlash hasn’t killed Daniel Regha’s relevance in arguments about Nigerian entertainment.
