Simon Ekpa, a Finnish-Nigerian separatist leader and self-proclaimed Prime Minister of the Biafra Republic Government In-Exile, has been arrested in Finland along with four others for alleged terr0rism-related offenses.
The Päijät-Häme District Court has remanded Ekpa in custody on charges of public incitement to commit a cr!me with terr0rist intent.
On Thursday, November 21, the Finnish Central Criminal Police confirmed the arrest of five individuals suspected of involvement in terr0rist activities. According to the police statement, Simon Ekpa is the primary suspect, detained “on suspicion of public incitement to commit a crime with terr0rist intent,” while four others face allegations of “financing a terr0rist crime.”
The investigation focuses on “a Finnish citizen of Nigerian background, born in the 1980s, suspected of public incitement to commit a cr!me with terr0rist intent,” the police said. It alleges that Ekpa used his position in Finland to promote vi0lence against civilians and authorities, as well as other cr!mes in South-Eastern Nigeria.
Cr!me Commissioner Otto Hiltunen, leading the investigation, noted that “the man has carried out this activity, among other things, on his social media channels.”
The four additional suspects are accused of providing financial support for the alleged activities. “All five suspects of the crime have been arrested during the beginning of the week,” the statement read, emphasizing the role of international collaboration in the preliminary investigation.
The Päijät-Häme District Court will hear the claims against the suspects today, November 21.
