Bovi Mourns the Heartbreaking Loss of His Father, Dr. Edward Ugboma

Nigerian comedian, actor and filmmaker Bovi Ugboma has announced the passing of his father, Dr. Edward Sagini Ugboma. He made the announcement on social media on Thursday, February 13, 2025, and expressed his gratitude for the outpouring of love from well wishers.

Dr. Edward Ugboma reportedly passed away peacefully earlier in the day. Details of his death are private, but Bovi promised to announce funeral arrangements in due time. Losing a parent is never easy and Bovi who has often spoken about his family in his comedy has got his work cut out for him.

In a statement, Bovi wrote, “We, the Ugboma family, wish to announce the peaceful passage of our father, grandfather and uncle, Dr. Edward Sagini Ugboma (PhD) today, 13th February 2025”

He added, “He is survived by his children; Judy, Edna, Bovi, Zino, Tano, Tome and Jiji, many grandchildren and loving relatives. We appreciate all the calls and messages in this period of mourning and gratitude. Funeral arrangements will be announced soon”

The late Dr. Edward Ugboma was a big man in his field. Though not much is known about his professional career, it’s clear he played a big role in the lives of his children. Bovi has often credited his upbringing and family values for his success in the entertainment industry.

Born on September 25, 1979 in Benin City, Nigeria, Bovi Ugboma has grown to become one of the biggest comedians in Africa. He has built a legacy through stand-up comedy, television and film and is widely recognized for his storytelling and witty humor. He has headlined several big comedy shows including his widely acclaimed one man show “Bovi: Man on Fire” which has toured internationally.
