Bovi Biography, Background, and Net Worth

Abovi Ugboma popularly known as Bovi was born on September 25, 1979 in Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria. He started his education at UNIBEN Staff School and later attended Government College, Ughelli in Delta State. He was transfered to Edokpolor Grammar School in Benin City for disciplinary reasons. He went to Delta State University and graduated in 2002.

Career Beginnings

Bovi’s foray into the entertainment industry started in 2007 with the sitcom “Extended Family” which he wrote, produced and starred in. The show was well received and that marked his entry into the Nigerian comedy scene. By 2008 he was a big name in comedy shows all over Nigeria, he was performing in events like “Night of a Thousand Laughs” by Opa Williams.

Rise to Prominence

In 2013 he launched his stand-up comedy special “Bovi: Man on Fire” at the Eko Convention Center in Lagos. The success of the show led to sequels in 2014 and 2017 featuring international artists like Ja Rule and Ashanti. The “Man on Fire” series went global with shows in London, Melbourne and Toronto.

Ventures into Film and Television

Beyond stand-up comedy, he has had huge impact in Nollywood. He debuted in film production with “It’s Her Day” in 2016 a romantic comedy that was a commercial success. In 2021 he co-produced and starred in “My Village People” which grossed over 100m in the Nigerian box office. His TV projects include “The Bovi Ugboma Show” and “Bovi Reloaded” which shows his versatility as a writer and actor.

Personal Life

He is married to Kris Asimonye Ugboma and they have three children. They celebrated their 13th wedding anniversary on September 19, 2022. In early 2022 Kris did surgery for an ectopic pregnancy and Bovi publicly shared it to raise awareness.
