Controversy erupts as Asake praises Wizkid while snubbing Olamide in a Grammy interview
Nigerian Afrobeats singer and songwriter Asake sparked reactions on the internet after being captured in a live interview acknowledging a senior colleague in the music industry, Ibrahim Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid.
Recall that the talented singer was one of the nominees for Grammy award in 2024 and again nominated in 2025.
While fans across the world anticipated the ‘Lonely at the Top’ crooner to emerge for the first time as a Grammy award winner, his recognition of Wizkid in the short interview got fans praising him.
In his words, This is the second time I have been nominated for a Grammy, which I’m very excited about. Anybody that wins is a win for all of us. Shout out to big Wiz.” His statement mentioning the ‘Ojuelegba’ crooner is a testament to his love and loyalty for him.

Immediately he made the statement; fans threw him with lovely reactions. “Asake, you are a good guy. Thank you for mentioning the biggest bird in your interview. His grace will touch you, and you will have a Grammy, Inshallah.”
“Almost every artist in Nigeria knows deep down the respect Wizzy commands. Biggest bird for a reason.”
While fans were throwing support for Asake’s respect for Wizkid, critics argued that the singer is being biased and ungrateful for not giving a ‘shout out’ to Olamide, who brought him to the spotlight.
“This guy is an ingrate, I swear. Where do you keep the name of your destiny helper? No wonder Grammy denied you the award.”
“There’s nothing wrong with acknowledging Wizkid oo but how about your former Boss? Can’t you give him his recognition too.”
“This is human being for you. Not only those you help will recognize you tomorrow.”
Despite his failure to win a Grammy this year, the influence and contribution of Asake to Afrobeats can not be underrated.
