Nigerian actress Ufuoma McDermott opens up about her kidney and challenging journey which reached a critical point with a diagnosis of Stage 4 kidney disease last year.
After battling health issues for over 12 years, Ufuoma’s condition escalated from Stage 3 to Stage 4 due to delays in treatment, marking a turning point in her life and career.
Actress Ufuoma McDermott attributes her condition to the excessive use of painkillers, leading to complications that severely impacted her health. She faced a life-threatening struggle, including six months of immobility and weight loss, which left her uncertain about her future.
In an interview with Chude Jideonwo, Actress Ufuoma McDermott shared her experiences of navigating her acting and production career while managing the intense physical and emotional toll of her illness. She was carried away with hustle and making money that she didn’t pay serious attention to her health.
She also disclosed her decision to live abroad with her family while continuing to work in Nigeria. This shift has allowed her a greater focus on her health and well-being, balancing her public career with a more private family life. she said that that her younger brother had earlier died from the same disease.
