The 11.45-kilometer stretch of road is expected to be finished within the next 12 months and will have streetlights for safety and ease. In his emphasis, Governor Otti mentioned the significance of the roads in enhancing the local economies and employment in agriculture, food processing, hospitality, retail, and real estate.
In his statement, the governor highlighted, “Our vision is to leverage the strategic location of these communities to develop new urban centers outside Aba and Umuahia, establishing a network of organized and secure urban communities.”

The Ntigha-Mbawsi-Umuala Road connects key regional projects, including: The proposed Abia Airport at Nsulu, The redevelopment of Nsulu Games Village into a modern sports complex and the renovation of educational and health facilities in Isialangwa.These developments are designed to promote urbanization and create new hubs of economic and social activity, relieving pressure on the state’s major cities.
The governor pointed out that upon completion, the road will reduce travel time between Umuala and Umuahia while opening up local markets to urban shoppers seeking fresh, organic produce. This will encourage agricultural investments as farmers work to meet increased demand.
In a move to preserve history and honor Abia’s heritage, Governor Otti announced that the late Chief Jaja Anucha Ndubuisi Wachukwu’s residence and mausoleum would also be renovated. As part of the project, the road will be extended to his compound. Chief Wachukwu, celebrated as the first Speaker of the Nigerian House of Representatives and the first Nigerian Ambassador to the United Nations, remains a figure of pride for the people of Abia.
Governor Otti stressed the importance of community involvement, urging citizens to support the state’s vision by fulfilling their tax obligations. He also assured that local resources and labor would be prioritized in areas that don’t require technical expertise, ensuring that Abians directly benefit from the project’s value chain.
