Insoleto! Nigerians chant as Dele Farotimi arrives court today
Prominent lawyer and human rights activist Dele Farotimi arrived at Ekiti State court today over alleged defamation case.
Two weeks ago, the human rights lawyer was arrested at his Lagos office over alleged defamation filed against him by powerful judge Afe Babalola in Ekiti State.
Farotimi, known for his outspoken views on political and social issues in Nigeria, arrived at the courthouse surrounded by supporters and heavy security.
This incident has triggered public blakash as many Nigerians condemned the act. Saying it was an attempt to silence the people from standing against injustice and speaking truth to power.
However, others argue that his statements must be scrutinized to avoid harm to individuals’ reputations.
Celebritynote has compiled some of the reactions below.
@Victoria – “He should be accountable for his actions.”
@Edoka – “Nigeria’s justice system is corrupt.”
@Jotter – “Farotimi is innocent; the law only affects the poor but not the elites.”
@Muhammed – “Babalola is a politician in disguise.”
@Lady – “Our prayers are with you, Sir. God will disappoint your enemies.”
