Breaking: Premier League referee David Coote Dismissed after investigation

On November 11, Coote, was suspended by the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) pending a thorough investigation after a video purportedly capturing him disparaging Liverpool and the team’s former manager, Jurgen Klopp, went viral on social media.

A second investigation was launched after “the Sun” released images claiming to be from this summer’s European Championship, showing that Coote was seen inhaling a white powder via a rolled-up US banknote.

According to the PGMOL, Coote’s actions rendered his stance “untenable.”

Independent images or the video has not yet been made public.

Although he has the option to appeal this ruling, PGMOL stressed their dedication to his well-being in spite of the dismissal.

PGMOL may review its policies and procedures pertaining to referee conduct and disciplinary measures in light of David Coote’s termination.

David Coote made his Premier League debut on  18th April 2023, as an official during a game between Newcastle United and West Bromwich Albion, which West Brom won 1-0. Before the 2018–19 season, he was later elevated to the Select Group of Referees. During his career, Coote officiated important games, like  the 2023 EFL Cup final.
