Adebayo Salami Honored with Doctorate Degree in the UK
Famous Nollywood Actor, Adebayo Salami popularly known as Oga Bello, has been awarded an honorary doctorate in Theatre and Media Arts by the Achievers Network Academy in the United Kingdom. The award marks a big milestone in the actor’s 50 years in the entertainment industry in Nigeria.
This was shared in an Instagram post by Muyiwa Ademola, another famous Nollywod Actor Ademola, where he posted a video of the ceremony. In the video clip, Salami is seen shining with pride as he receives the honorary award, joined by another veteran actor, Jide Kosoko, who is seen congratulating him.
Muyiwa Ademola captioned the post, “Congratulations sir, DR ADEBAYO SALAMI. @ Otunba Adebayo Aremu Salami (PhD) decorated by President Olusegun Obasanjo’s wife as he bags honorary Doctorate in Theatre and Media Arts from Achievers Network Academy, UK.”
This achievement is a testament to Salami’s impactful contributions to the development of the film and theatre industry in Nigeria. The actor, who turned 71 earlier this year, began acting in 1964 as a member of the Young Concert Party, later evolving into the Awada Kerikeri Theatre Group, which he led after the passing of its founder, Ojo Ladipo. Salami made his debut in Nigeria’s first Yoruba film, *Ajani Ogun,* and later produced several acclaimed movies, including *Ogun Ajaye.*
The actor has gained lots of recognition over the years, for his acting prowess and his good leadership role in Nollywood. Salami has been a mentor to many other actors who have now grown to become popular.
This honorary degree is another ‘feather in the cap’ for a man who continues to encourage and inspire others with his unwavering dedication to acting and his commitment to displaying Nigerian culture on the national and international stage.
