The Lagos State community was shocked on October 30th, 2024, by the sudden dem!se of Mr. Abdulrahman Lekki, who had been an aide to Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu and the Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Scholarship Board. His dem!se, which was a result of a brief illness that saw him passing on in the early hours of the day, has caught many people by surprise, and they are in a state of mourning.
Life of Abdulrahman Lekki
Abdulrahman Lekki was humble, dedicated, selfless, and most importantly, committed to education and the welfare of the community. He was the Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Scholarship Board, where his responsibility involved sponsoring the education of the young ones. This commitment was evident in the various programs that he personally led to support education and offer scholarships to students in various institutions within Lagos State.
The Lagos State Head of Service said in a bemoaning statement:
“With total submission to the will of Almighty Allah, we mourn the sudden demise of Mr. Abdulrahman Lekki.”
Such was the overwhelming response received from so many people who knew him, which only underlined the highly positive influence he held over many hundreds of people’s lives at the time of his death.

He was greatly mourned by his colleagues and many friends after the news of his demise broke out on social media platforms and other news sources. Tokunbo Wahab shared his concerns on social media platforms as the Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources. He wrote,
“Surely we belong to Allah, and to Him is our return.” It saddens me a lot to announce that we have lost a friend and brother in the person of Abdulrahman Lekki.”
His words could be understood by many who saw Lekki not just as a worker but as a pal and a guide.
Wahab also expanded on Lekki’s personality by saying that
“Abdulrahman was more than a colleague to me; he was a role model, a source of strength, and a friend who lent encouraging spirit, courteousness, and friendly nature to people around him.”
Thus, this reflection in his character reveals the extent to which he was integrated and embraced within the community and his established legacy.
Legacy of Abdulrahman Lekki
During his leadership, Abdulrahman Lekki played pivotal roles in the formulation of policies that would increase education opportunity and equality in Lagos State. The Scholarship Board’s experience was characterized by its duty to make sure that many students got the financial aid they required to enable them to attain their dreams in their education.
Several of these scholarship beneficiaries have not hesitated to offer their heartfelt appreciation to Lekki, stating clearly that it has brightened up their future.

“His legacy will live on in the lives he touched and the many he inspired to reach their highest potential’.
This is a clear indication that his work and the principles he stewarded will continue to be felt for a very long duration.
Mourning and Memorial
Funeral plans are now being prepared as the community mourns the death of Abdulrahman Lekki. The Lagos State Head of Service stated that ‘‘details on funeral arrangements will be released later’’. In this statement, there is representation of the respect and honorable treatment that the community wants to accord him in burial rites.
Funerals are another good example of how people need to sympathize and support each other in their sorrowful moments. Thus, the death of a man such as Lekki, who devoted his entire life to human needs and helping others, is something that gives meaning to the word ‘compassion’ and encourages people to join hands and support each other in the difficult period.
