Mikel Obi to join Chelsea Legends in fundraising showdown against Liverpool

Former Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi is set to return to the pitch in a special charity match against Liverpool Legends on Saturday, 22nd March.

The match, taking place at Anfield, has been organized to raise funds for the Chelsea Foundation and the Chelsea Players’ Trust, both of which support various charitable causes and community initiatives.

Mikel, who enjoyed an illustrious 11-year career with Chelsea, will be joined by some of the club’s most iconic figures. 

Among the names in the Chelsea Legends squad are former stars like Gianfranco Zola, Carlo Cudicini, Ramires, and Gary Cahill.

The team will also feature some fan favorites from the attacking line, with Eidur Gudjohnsen, Jesper Gronkjaer, and Loic Remy making up the offensive threat. 

Together, these footballing legends will relive some of the best moments in Chelsea’s history, showcasing their skill and passion for the game.

The game will be a special occasion, as he steps onto the field once again in front of fans who remember his significant role in the club’s successes.

Mikel spent over a decade at Chelsea, making 374 appearances and winning numerous honors.

His accolades include two Premier League titles, three FA Cups, and the ultimate prize in European football, the UEFA Champions League, which he won in 2012 after a memorable final against Bayern Munich.

His cool and composed presence in midfield helped Chelsea dominate both domestically and on the continental stage.

Mikel’s retirement from professional football in September 2022 marked the end of a remarkable chapter in his career.

Since then, he has remained a respected figure in the footballing world, and his participation in this charity match speaks to his ongoing commitment to the sport and the club he represented with distinction.
