2027: Atiku confirms coalition to dislodge APC, denies defection rumours

Former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has categorically denied rumours of him defecting from the party.

 The former Vice President refuted reports suggesting he was planning to leave the PDP for the Social Democratic Party (SDP), calling them part of a deliberate campaign to mislead the public and confuse the opposition’s coalition efforts.

Atiku’s denial came after several media outlets circulated news that the seasoned politician was preparing to switch parties ahead of the 2027 elections.

These reports, which had begun to gain weight in recent weeks, claimed Atiku was in talks to join the SDP, igniting speculation about his future political moves. However, Atiku’s media office was quick to debunk these claims, calling them “a total fallacy” and urging the public not to give them any credence.

The statement issued by his media office emphasized that Atiku remains a committed and loyal member of the PDP. 

“We have observed that some news platforms are peddling unverified information that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is abandoning the Peoples Democratic Party.

We wish to clarify that the so-called news of Atiku defecting to another party is a total fallacy that holds no merit in logic,” the statement read.

Atiku’s office also made it clear that the former Vice President is deeply invested in driving a coalition of opposition parties aimed at unseating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections.

 He stressed that any suggestion of his departure from the PDP undermines the ongoing efforts to unite various opposition groups.

 “Such an allegation is antithetical to the objective of the grand coalition, which the former Vice President is currently driving alongside other prominent political leaders in the country,” the statement further revealed.
