Senator Sunday Steve Karimi apologizes to senator Akpabio over Senate committee controversy

Senator Sunday Steve Karimi (Kogi West) publicly apologized to his colleague, Senator Godswill Akpabio, for his role in a controversy surrounding the Senate committee position.

In an emotional address, Karimi admitted to lobbying for Senator Natasha Akpoti’s appointment to the Senate Committee, acknowledging that his actions inadvertently led to Akpabio’s current predicament.

Karimi’s confession sheds light on the illegality of lobbying and complex dynamics surrounding the public office. 

According to his statement, he had actively worked to secure a Senate committee position for Akpoti, believing it would enhance her political standing. However, Karimi revealed that his efforts ultimately placed Akpabio, who had not anticipated the fallout, in a difficult position.

The apology came during the time the Senate chamber is full of controversies especially between Akpabio and Natasha.

Karimi’s confession highlights a broader issue of political maneuvering and influence within the Nigerian Senate.  Senators often work behind the scenes to influence key decisions that impact committee allocations, nominations, and appointments.

However, these behind-the-scenes moves can lead to unintended consequences, as Karimi’s apology demonstrates.

In his statement, Karimi expressed sincere regret for his actions, saying, “I want to confess my sin today. I’m one of those who put you in this problem, and I’m very sorry.” 

Akpabio, for his part, received Karimi’s apology with grace, acknowledging the complexity of political negotiations. He emphasized the importance of unity within the Senate and the need for mutual understanding in order to overcome the challenges they face.
