A Nigerian Doctor and social media personality named Dr Christabel Akinola has warned against the excessive use of vitamin C supplements due to its risk of causing kidney stones and kidney damage.
Dr. Christabel took to X formerly Twitter to educate people about the risk of excessive intake of vitamin C. She said a 28-year-old woman has reportedly suffered kidney failure allegedly due to “taking Vitamin C supplements for glowing skin”.
The woman was reportedly taking Vitamin C supplements combined with some other supplements, and they knocked her kidneys.
Dr. Christabel said the patient initially had Kidney stones, then they commenced treatment on her, but it kept degenerating quickly, to the point that she needed a Kidney transplant.
Dr. Christabel added that the patient eventually had the Kidney transplant as her sister was a match.
After the procedure, the patient was asked a few questions to avoid the recurrence of the issue, and it was at that point that it was revealed that she had been taking over 2000mg of Vitamin C daily mixed with Glutathione powder and other infusions for glowing skin.
The patient was said to have continued taking those supplements even when she was undergoing the kidney procedure which was why her issue degenerated quickly, and she was unaware of the problem.
Other Doctors have reacted to the woman’s situation by warning that Vitamin C supplements, while good, should be taken with caution and not above 1000mg a day.
Hopefully, this information will go viral, especially to the youths who are in pursuit of glowing, milky skin.
