Yul Edochie Reflects on His 2017 Gubernatorial Run, says “I will be back”

Nollywood actor Yul Edochie son of Pete Edochie is no stranger to controversy, and his recent Facebook post about his past political aspirations has certainly stirred the pot. He declared, “In 2017, I made history. At the young age of 35, I contested for Governor of Anambra State. From start to finish. I became the first and only Nollywood actor who has done it in the history of Nollywood.” This bold claim has ignited a flurry of reactions online, ranging from admiration to outright backlashes.

Yul’s account of his political journey is certainly compelling. He recounts facing various obstacles, including thr3ats to his life and criticisms about his age. “During the campaign, people said they would k!ll me, I told them they have no idea who I am, nobody can k!ll me, if you ever plan it, you’ll sleep and never wake up, you will not live to execute it.” He also addressed the age concerns head-on, stating, “They told me I’m too young to run. I asked them, ‘How old were Ojukwu and Gowon when they fought the civil w@r?’ They were not up to 35yrs.”

While some netizens have lauded his courage and determination, others have been less supportive. One netizen wrote, “Na this your confidence de give a lot of gvllible Nigerians heart att@ck. Studies show the rate of high BP has increased by 20% ever since you married Judy. They should just love you and have peace but they keep saying taaaah 🥺,” referencing Yul’s controversial second marriage.

Another questioned his political choices, asking, “So you have contested for governor before and you supported Tinubu during the election? You’re wicked 😂.”

Yul’s assertion that he voted for himself (“I ran the race till the end and voted for myself proudly.”) has also drawn mixed reactions.

One follower jokingly commented, “You voted for yourself that means nobody voted for you. chai when you are contesting again call me let me vote for you.” Others have questioned his leadership abilities, with one person stating, “Leadership starts right from your home, if you can’t lead an examplary life in your marriage or manage your family then how can you lead a state?
