Nigerians Concerned Over 40% Rise in Call and Data Costs
There is growing concern that Nigerian cellular service rates could rise by 40% in the new year.

This comes after Nigerian telecom users, who are represented by the National Association of Telecoms Subscribers (NATCOMS), opposed the planned increase in telecom rates.
The subscribers added that, given the current economic difficulty, it would be callous for the Nigerian government to allow a telecom pricing hike of 40%.
According to news headlines, there has been a lot of conjecture about a cellular tariff hike of 40% in recent days.
Accordingly, this means that all telecom services given by carriers like MTN, Glo, Airtel, and others would increase by 40 percent. For instance, a data package priced at N1000 would jump to N1,400 in the new rate regime slated to begin off in 2025.
Although, claims of a tariff increase were denied by Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) officials.
This happens at a time when telecom companies recently threatened to shut down if tariffs weren’t raised.
Recall that last year, the NCC continued to refuse to approve telecom operators’ proposals for tariff hikes.
